Fishing and mushrooms

The Municipality of Bionaz is the northernmost of the Aosta Valley region and occupies the territory of the homonymous valley (Bionaz Valley), tributary of Valpelline.
On the municipal territory there is one of the most important artificial lakes in the whole Aosta Valley, the lake of Place Moulin.
It is by territorial extension the third municipality of the Aosta Valley after Cogne and Courmayeur.

Thanks to about twenty glaciers that cover about 15% of the territory, Bionaz holds the record of "glaciality".
Over the millennia glaciers and water from them have shaped the landscape in various ways, creating smaller lateral valleys and forming alpine lakes.

The artificial lake of Place Moulin, with a barrier of 155 meters high and 678 meters long, is one of the largest dams in Europe of an intense turquoise color.
A path of about 6 km along the bank on the orographic right of the dam allows a nice walk on foot, in mountain byke or even with the stroller.
In the waters of the dam you take trout up to 4 - 5 kg. each, you see those long 1 meter, estimated weight about 9 - 10 kg, but do not bite because they are full of small fish.
However, the ones that you can catch, take the color of the lake, are white and blue like the waters, and are definitely good.

All the fish in the Aosta Valley is very good, because bred by the fishing consortium in the Municipality of Morgex.

Opening of fishing in the lakes on 17 June 2012.

Some recommended excursions:

- Colle del Piccolo San Bernardo - Fishing for a fee - abundant fish ( Fario, Salmerino, Eridee)
- Comba di By - Lago Cornet little fish - Lago Enclousa medium fish - Lago Leitù fishy, but the trout Fario do not grow (according to fishermen)
- Lake Livournea - very fishy - only Char - rich area of Ibex and Chamois.
- Lakes Palasina - go up from Verres towards Brusson and then Estoul - Parking on the square and then walk 2 hours and a half of beautiful farm - well marked 9 lakes all fishy and excellent landscape.

If you see that trout eat midges (muskets) it is because nature is better than fishermen’s worms, and then you dream (Guido Denchasaz).
